Hi - my name is Karl I have purchased this sword some time ago and it is the only one I do not know either the construction period nor the maker. I have asked the Japanese seller to give me some information but, all he could tell me was that the words probably read 'Syu Kaifu Jyu Mune' and that this sword was probably made in the Tokushima prefecture. I however could not match this with the database available. It would help to know that I purchase it in its shirasaya. |

Hello, I believe it to be one of these smiths listed by Sesko (probably the San'ami den). From Markus Sesko's Japanese Swordsmiths: |

The father-in-law brought a sword home from WWII. After many years of it hiding in the back of the closet, he's gone and the family is trying to figure out what it is. I notice it has a take-down screw in the handle, rather than a pin, which leads me to believe it is a manufactured item rather than an older craftsman build. I'm new here so I will try to attach a photo of the markings on the tang. Any help you can offer will be gratefully received. Thanks! |

I received a Tanto as a gift many years ago. This Kozuka came in the pocket of the koshirae. I would appreciate any help identifying the signature on the Kozuka and the Kogatana. |

Hello- A year or so ago-I remember watching a short clip of a sword maker in Japan who created the most unique hamon pattern I have seen so far-it was a kind of “criss-cross” pattern he made with what looked like a very small brush or a piece of straw. I will attach a drawing of what it looked like. I’ve looked for the video but can’t find it and also cant find any examples of it online. Please take a look at the drawing and if anyone knows what it’s called or has an example photo of it please let me know! Thanks for your time |

Sword Identification About a month ago, doing demo work on an abandoned house, I can across this poor soul in between a wall we were knocking down! As you can see from the pictures, this soul has been abused, beaten, chipped, dented and filed. It is stained and sad! The Katana has always been the favorite sword since I was a kid. Seeing this soul in such sad disarray, hurt my heart and soul! The Katana was an extension of a Samurai soul and in my own way, I could feel that! |

Hello. I have inherited a short sword from my grandfather. I have searched endlessly on info on this sword with no success. If someone could take a look at my photos and help me figure out its origin, it would be greatly appreciated. |

I've been obsessed with Japanese swords for almost fifty years, but never thought I would own one. I was given an old wakizashi a while back--probably almost twenty years ago. I believe the person who gave it to me purchased it at a Christie's auction, but unfortunately he copied the wrong page out of the auction catalog, and I have no way to ever get any questions answered. The tang only has markings on one side. I'm uploading pictures with different angles of lighting, hoping to get some help with identification. Here's all I could come up with: |
