Help identify sword

The father-in-law brought a sword home from WWII. After many years of it hiding in the back of the closet, he's gone and the family is trying to figure out what it is. I notice it has a take-down screw in the handle, rather than a pin, which leads me to believe it is a manufactured item rather than an older craftsman build.

I'm new here so I will try to attach a photo of the markings on the tang. Any help you can offer will be gratefully received.

Thanks!

Hi,

It would be helpful if you added pictures of the tsuka (handle) and also the blade's surface.

Are these the only characters? Is there anything on the other side?
