Hello everyone.
First, thanks to Stan who accepted my membership.
Some days ago, I found the site web Tokugawa Arts Swrod and saw this Nihonto
http://www.sanmei.com/contents/en-us/p1878.html
I immediately fall in love with it: perfect measurements for me, nice curvature, beautiful koshirae, almost mint condition. For a 28 years old nihonto, it is well conserved. On top of that, this is a Noshu Kanehide's late masterpiece a few years before his death. For information, the Gunto that Mr.McCartney Russel used to perform his Geness record Senbongiri was forged by Kanehide as well.

I'm trying to send a sword from Ireland to England, does anyone know a courier company that will handle swords? I've tried UPS, DHL, Fedex, and TNT so far and just got a flat no from them all. Cheers.

Hi All,
My apologies for very slow response to your issues with file upload. I've been away from home for the last 2 weeks with limited connectivity options.
You should be able to upload pictures up to 2M in size each.
Regards,
Stan

Would appreciate Members views on Photos attached.Have been told translation reads Soshu Ju Sadamune which equates to SAD543.(14th Century).Nagasa is 51cms which is Wakizashi length. However, there seem to be no signed pieces in existence by this swordsmith so is mine a "fake"?Any advice appreciated.
Cannot upload photos for some reason.Continual failure to upload, even though says photos successfully uploaded??? Photos can be seen on Ebay if enter 111398331155 into search. My apologies if this breaks Club rules but uploading photos should not be so difficult as this!!

Hi, Anyone got any thoughts on this tsuba. Don't think it's anything special but I would like to know a bit more about it. Looks to me like a very plain higo tsuba from the shape of the hitsu-ana, but that's as far I've got. Cheers.

Hello,
I recently purchased my first katana at a very reasonable price from someone with less knowledge than myself...if you can believe that. : ) It appears to have all the signs of good Nihonto - to my untrained eye - with visible steel grain, etc. and handcrafted brass tsuba.
I wanted to upload a series of 20 photos but could not. So, I decided to try posting with just one photo - a second attempt - showing the four character Kanji inscriptions for translation help. If anyone believes it worth going further please let me know and I will try posting the other photos.

Good morning,
I am new to this forum and will introduce myself later today. I bought a wakizashi with NBTHK Hozon Token papers identifying it as Shinto blade. It is signed Senriki kaneshige from Kumamoto ju - fujiwara. I checked the data base but I cannot find this smith in the database. Where could I find more information about this smith, or am I not using the database correctly?
Kumamoto ju~ Fujiwara Senriki Kaneshige 隈本住藤原千力包重
Thank you for your help.
Chris de Feijter, Canada.

Hi, Just wondering if anyone is willing to make a guess at an age on this sword based on the shape? It's an odd size, 32" overall, blade is 25", tang is 7", width at the base of the blade is 1 1/8th". Very poor condition as you can see so features of the blade are all but impossible to make out, tang very badly rusted. Any and all opinions welcome. Thanks.

Gentlemen,
A friend came by to show his latest gun show pickup! Nice blade but mei had mekugi-ana punched thru the first kanji. Any confirmation on the mei?
Thank you in advance,
Bob

It is said that you can tell the smith by the Hiromono. Here is a segment of a Nagamaki-naoshi that I've owned for a number of years. The blade has this So no kurikara hiromono without the Ken there is also rendai at the tail of the dragon. In the center there is what appears to be either a sword or arrow strike. It also has Bonji and Hi on the ura side. My question is, does any one know of a smith the used so no kurikara without the ken, or was the ken intended to be carved but was not?

I've had this tanto for several years and continue to wonder about it. The omote is signed: "Uchi Mono Ume Tada Hiko Ichi", with a horimono of a tiger in the bamboo. On the Ura side it is simply signed, "Tada Hiro," with a carving of bamboo. Unusual format. The Tadahiro kanji doesn't match any specimen signatures that I have access to but there was a long line of this group & I have no idea if this is truly a genuine Mei of a lesser member or if it is simply gemei but on an uncommon side of the nakago?

Years ago I purchased a nice antique blade, mumei, osuriagi, with Gunto mounts from a guy that had a number of pieces. He also gave me a loose surrender tag at the same time, inscribed in Japanese & English, indicating a sword by Colonel Shigeyoshi Shibuya of Wakayama had been surrendered. He didn't remember if the tag went with my sword or one of the others he had. I wrote to the Colonel asking if he could describe his sword but the letter came back unopened.

Hi all, New to the forum and I'm going to dive straight in with a question. Is there anywhere in Ireland I could get a shirasaya made? I have a sword that is in gunto mounts that are about to fall apart and I'd like to give the blade better protection. I don't like the idea of having to ship it over to the UK to have one made, so is there anyone here who makes them? Thanks.

Hello all,
I have recently come across a nice two book set of Fujishiro's NTJ and since I am Japanese language impaired I would love to find at least an English translation of the indexes (if not the entire books)so I may more efficiently reference.
I understand that Harry Watson at one time did provide such an item but may not anymore due to possible copyright issues. My initial serach turns up nothing.
Can anyone help me and provide a solution for my dilemma?
Jeff
