This is the first Sword I am trying to get identified. Images 350-358 are from the second sword I am trying to identify. This second sword was brought back to Canada on the Abyssinia which traveled back and forth from Vancouver to Yokohama approx. 1887. |

Kogarasu Maru
Item Type:
Swords - tachi
Custom Type:
Kogarasu Maru
Description:
This is my favorite sword in my small collection. I really would appreciate your expert opinions and comment as to whether i have something really special here. The sword is a Tachi with a kogarasu maru blade circa 1680 signed in kanji Higashiyama Ju Daijo Yoshihira. The really interesting aspect is the Daijo title in the signature as this would lend weight to the rumours of him being expelled for giving himself the title Daijo without permission.enjoy the pictures and i look forward to your valued comments.thanks gary. |

Hi All, While going through the smiths of Aoe school in Swordsmith Index I once again was reminded of noisy/wrong/questionable smith ratings (Fujishiro/Toko Taikan) which still exist in the database. It was always in my list of things to clean up and now it's time. I'm going to archive and remove the following information:
This data was a part of initial database upload, I don't know/remember where it came from and hence this data can't be verified. Moreover, I noticed on numerous occasions that these values are not in line with the original books, with no traceability as of why these ratings were changed. Data quality is one of my highest priorities while working on Nihonto Club resources and I believe it's a step in the right direction. Once this is done, eventually someone can go through the books and confirm/fix the remaining ratings (Hawley ratings are 99% correct, even though they are the least useful ones). I would appreciate your feedback on this matter. Regards, |

Hey all! Here's my second sword I have questions on. (Also, sorry Stan, I didn't read the message about uploading pictures till after I posted my first post.) This one is a little tanto I picked up a couple years ago. It's got a kozuka with it and a tsuba, but it's missing a lot of the other fittings. The tsuba has gold inlay and the kabuto-gane has a clan mon painted in gold on it. I've managed to identify it as a clan named the Mokko...but I've been unable to discover anything else about the clan. I think it's dated between 1800 and 1820. |

Greetings all! My name is Cameron and I live in Tacoma, WA. I posted on this site a few years back when I accidentally bought a few fake World War 2 swords. Since then I've learned a little bit more and have got some pieces that I wanted to share with you guys. I wanted your opinions on two of them. This is the first one that I have and the little bit that I know about it is that it's a sword that was made in the closing days of the war when resources were scarce. |
