Biography and lineage
The "master Kunitoshi". There are 2 different theories:
1) Kunitoshi of Rai school had a very long career. He changed his style, sugata and signature arnound Shōō, leaving two distinct work periods.
2) There were two different swordsmiths.
The most popular theory is that there was only one smith (theory 1) and Nihonto Club notes are based on this theory.
This record represents works of the late period (known as Rai Kunitoshi). Early period (so called Niji Kunitoshi) is explained here.
Born Ninji 1st (1240). He died in Kōei 3rd (1345) [1].
Niji Kunitoshi's hada doesn't have masame, while Rai Kunitoshi's does [2].
