General HOW-TO Questions |
The father-in-law brought a sword home from WWII. After many years of it hiding in the back of the closet, he's gone and the family is trying to figure out what it is. I notice it has a take-down screw in the handle, rather than a pin, which leads me to believe it is a manufactured item rather than an older craftsman build. I'm new here so I will try to attach a photo of the markings on the tang. Any help you can offer will be gratefully received. Thanks! |

I recently came across a Showa period katana. I am having difficulty deciphering the maker's signature. I attended an antique arms show and showed it to a dealer who said he was unable identify the maker with certainty. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

I am looking for assistance in identifying and providing a bit of history for a Japanese Army Officer's sword that was captured on May 29, 1945 in the Philippines during WWII. We believe the Makers Mark identifies the Maker as Yoshichika Minamoto, but we cant identify the rest of the characters on the tang. The attached photos show the only characters found on either side of the tang. I haven't been able to located a temper line on the blade either. Thank you for your assistance. Warren |

Hi All I have recently obtained a Wakizashi, which I believe bears the signature of Fuyuhiro. The blade measures 65 cm's end to end and the tsuba is inlaid with what appears to be copper, silver and gold. I have done a load of investigation online I am now more confused than before I started looking, and as I will be selling the sword I wish to describe it correctly! Any help that can be provided would be very much appreciated. Greg If required I can add more photos |
