Hi, i am a complete novice but I recently purchased a katana blade from a local market and am desperately trying to establish the swordsmith and date. As i said i only have the blade, no fixtures and fittings, though i believe it to be a Kai-Gunto Naval sword.
I have attached some photo's here of the Tang, if you can make out the signature and date i would be very grateful.
Thanks in advance
Dominic

Hello everyone, just having a bit of trouble here. I've been looking for perhaps a good reference book for the different regions of Japan during the perhaps late Shinto or Shin-Shinto. I'm kinda looking for something that distinguishes the difference's between all the school. If anyone knows a good book or website that can help me with this, please let me know. Thanks
-Tyler

Hello, I'm new to this forum, took me awhile to find a sword forum dedicated to just Nihonto. I love them. Any way, was wondering if I could get some help here. A friend asked me to translate a Mei for him, and honestly I'm not having much luck. I think it says Mihara Sadamune, but I'm new to this translation stuff. I know the signature is on a NoDachi if that helps. Here are some photos, sorry for the horrible quality. Please bestow upon me any knowledge you may have and I look forward to be a fellow forum mate here. Any help you can give on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Dear Pete and Stan!
Thanks a lot for for your answers and help. I'm sorry, but had no chance to answer earlier.
Mr. Stan, you're absolutely right: meis are made at differet times, wiht different tools and different people. A surface of nakago was cleaned before drawing Kanji.
As you asked, I give some more photos of this sword.
I'm sorry for quality, but I'm not a good photographer and haven't proper equipment for photos. Therefore I give the some comments: It is katana. The whole length - 35.4", length of nagasa - 24.4"
Hamon type is close to hiro-suguba.

Would anybody be familiar with a swordsmith whose mei reading is Minamoto (no) Mori hisa Saku active during the Taiei Era in the southern island of Japan (Kyushu). This Koto Katana is a beautiful sword.
