I have what I believe to be a Japanese short sword, dagger or Tanto. All I know of its history is that it has been in the family for 60 to 80 years and tat it came from a country house. The dagger 430mm long is blade 285mm. The handle is covered in what looks like snakeskin. There is some corrosion and scratches on the blade and the sheath/scabbard is split suggesting some maltreatment or attempts to clean it in the past. It has spent the last 60 years in a drawer.

Hello all, I recently bought a Type 3 army Gunto in pretty rough shape which I'm going to try to restore. Before I do anything to the sword, I want to see what I have. I am assuming it is a basic machine made mass produced sword, but I'd like to know more. Can anyone help me read the signature? I tried to take pictures quickly but the signature was really hard to see, so I photoshopped the dickens out of it. Hopefully you can read it. The Tang is signed on both sides.

Greetings from yet another newbie.
This sword was discovered by me at the bottom of a box at an estate garage sale over thirty-five years ago. I paid a whopping $20.00 for it, which at the time was actually quite a bit for a thirteen year old. I knew enough back then, thanks to Hawley's article in the old book "Guns of the World," to only oil the blade and to leave the rest of it alone. I tentatively translated the signature but as my resources were very limited I was unable to learn anything more. Sadly, over time I almost forgot I owned it.

Hello
I am looking at a mumei blade by Kanemoto which has an inscription on the tang and is papered. However due to the many Kanemoto's in the index I was wondering which one it may be. I am unable to supply photo's but have been able to get some written information below.
3dai nagasa 2shaku 2sun 3buhan
Katana mumei (Aizu Kanemoto)
(Ginzogan wada Shoheibei)
Migi wa to Kyoukai ni oite
Shina no kekka kicho token to
Shite nintei sueu
Zaidan hojin nihon bijyutsu toten hozon kyokai
Does this help at all in?
Many thanks

The signature looks really faint and I would appreciate it a lot if anyone could give me more info..I have included a picture of a stamp of what looks like a family mon found on the kabuto gane.
