Nihonto |
I have a sword that my father brought back at the end of WWII. This, as far as I know, is not a family heirloom (though, my family is Japanese). I believe my father purchased it for his father in law though, I'm not certain. I'm trying to determine age and swordsmith. I've looked thru the Kanji but my eyes don't find a match. I've included some pictures of the sword that I hope are clear enough for someone with great knowledge on swords can tell me a bit more about what I have. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated and I'll be happy to answer any questions I can. |

I am new to collecting Nihontos so I am still in the process of learning about them. So i have recently joined this club hoping to learn more about these Japanese swords. I recently purchased a Nihonto from a individual. He claims that it is a Katana, but i am wondering if he is not considering the length of the cutting edge(nagasa) but looking at the thickness of the blade being 7mm. |

My father removed this sword from a Captain of the Imperials Marines at the Battle of Okinawa. I've been told the swordmaker is Kuniyasu. Can anyone help with the translation of the mei characters? Thanks. |

I got the blade before short time and have tried to read the signature - I do not create it. Thanks |

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what the maker mark says on this katana. We found this at a pawnshop today. It's not in very good condition but we are curious to find out what it says on the tang. Thanks! |

When I was young, my parents bought me a Samurai Sword off ebay. I was honored they thought I was responsible enough. When I received the sword (quiet a few years ago, for a birthday I believe), it wasn't in the greatest of conditions. I cleaned it up as best I could. As I've gotten older, I've become more and more interested in where the sword came from. I have looked around a bit and couldn't find anything. I eventually came across this forum and browsed for hours looking for something similar. To my dismay, I still have not found anything like it. |

Can anyone ID this sword makers name or any data about this blade? |

I did have a Japanese dealer look at it over 20 years ago his name was takamunei not sure of the spelling he went into the back of the shop and came back with a very thick book with all the smiths names and locations in it, i have to admit when handling it he couldn't put it down,he gave me the name and location but over time i have lost them, he at the time offerd to buy the sword of me for the sum of £4000.00 ----- |
