Lineage

Lineage section contains fields describing smith’s attribution to a particular school, group and/or smith line. Almost every input field is repeated twice to allow more flexibility in cases of uncertainty or ambiguity of information. First category of fields would allow a reference to a precise record of the school, father or teacher, while the second category is a text field to record the information which isn't as detailed or certain to produce an unambiguous reference (e.g. if smith father's name is known (e.g. Masatsugu), but there isn’t enough information to find which Masatsugu exactly had been referred to.

Generation

Smith's generation (from 1st to 20th – if you need more please submit a support case to the Support section of the Discussion Board).

School

School/Group of sword-making the smith is attributed to. See Creating or Editing School Records guide for details regarding school records.

School is an auto-complete field. The school record must exist prior to using it. If it doesn't yet exist or it is uncertain which particular school to choose, use School Name text field.

School/Group Name

Swordsmith school/group name. Leave blank if School field is filled in.

Father

This field is used if the exact name and ID of the father is known. Otherwise use Father Name field.

Father is an auto-complete field. Start typing the name and pick the unique record from the list. Father's record should exist before referring to it.

Father Name

Use this field if father's name is known, but the corresponding record doesn't exist or it is uncertain which smith record to refer to. Leave this field blank if Father field is filled in.

Teacher

Smith's teacher. Use this field if you know the exact name and smith ID of the teacher. Otherwise use Teacher Name field.

Teacher is an auto-complete field. Start typing the name and pick the unique record from the list. Teacher's record should exist before referring to it.

Teacher Name

Use this field if teacher's name is known, but the corresponding record doesn't exist or it is uncertain which smith record to refer to. Leave this field blank if Teacher field is filled in.
