Biography and lineage
He had different mei throughout his career:
1905 - Kaneaki (after entering the school of Horii Taneaki [1])
1913 - Hideaki (given by Token Hozon Kai)
1933 - Toshihide (changed after the birth of Crown Prince Akihito)
SN: It is not clear who was Toshihide's father. Fujishiro mentions Horii Taneaki being his father [2], while Slough says he was a son-in-law and later was adopted by Taneaki. Hawley has 2 different record for both Hideaki (HID6 and HID7) and Toshihide (TOS154 and TOS158) mei, and every second record mentions Taneyoshi, Taneaki's teacher as Toshihide's father [3]. Aoi-Art says that he was born in 1886 as the third son of Hirokichi Tokuda of Shiga prefecture. This explains his Go (art name) 'Shiga Tarō', meaning 'Man of Shiga' (Slough).
