Yamamura

山村
Province:Echigo
Start Era:Enbun (1356-1361) ND
End Era:Kanshō (1460-1466)

Description:

It is said that around Enbun a bushi named Yamamura Masanobu was beckoned by Nidai Nobukuni of Kyōto to learn the craft of sword making [1]. The Yamamura Ha is said to have been bushi for generations [2]. Extant swords of this school are extremely rare.

A number of Yamamura smiths signed Nobukuni due to close connections with Yamashiro Nobukuni school. It still has to be identified if they were double-listed as Yamashiro smiths.
