Also known as Yokoyama Nizaemon (横山仁左衛門) in civil life, son of Sozoemon no Jō, and grandson of 4th generation mainline Toshiro.
Kiku mon (菊紋) and ichi kanji (一) were added to his signature after Kawachi no Kami title was given to him in 1701 (fifth month of Genroku 14), but he worked in Settsu and Mimasaka as well and previously signed his tangs with Yoshimitsu (義光).
Next to his contemporary and cousin Kozuke Daijo Sukesada, viewed as the greatest Shinto Bizen smith, his works are considered best and feature very marked ko-mokume, koshi-no-hiraita gunome-shoji tending to notare, a possible nie-loaden and broadnioiguchi, broad ko-maru-bōshi with much nie.
