Item Type:
tsuba
Item Type:
Fittings - tsuba
Description:
Shape is Mokko gata. Traditional motif of Shishi dog playing with a ball and the butterfly is skillfully applied. The rope runs through mimi and goes to the other side. There is a plug made of shakudo on the inner side of kozuka hitsu-ana. Nakago-ana has been widened to accomodate a larger blade. Another alteration has been made presumably at the same time: lion's tail has been cut and the end of the rope beside the ball is flattened. It seems like this has been done to fit a bigger seppa. Width: 79mm |

This topic is for those who would like to commence/continue their Kendo or Iaido training in Dublin. It is also for people who are interested in Samurai sword martial arts but aren't sure which one would suit them better. There are 2 clubs in Dublin which I would recommend. |

Item Type:
uchigatana
Custom Type:
uchigatana
Description:
Nakago: Patina on nakago is damaged by sand paper. Remaining patina has deep blackish colour. Yasurime is katte sagari. Nakagojiri type is kiri, with traces of rough cutting (different to other sides of nakago), which would suggest that the blade is suriage. Hamon: gunome-midare can be seen all along the ha. Detailed features are hard to notice. The blade is covered with shallow pitting, similar to old blades which didn't rust but remained without re-polishing for a long period of time. Lines are very elegant and neatly done. All surfaces seemed to have a very smooth finish, which suggest a good polisher's work damaged over time. |

Swords - tanto
Description:
Jihada: There is a tobiyaki on the shinogi line. Muneyaki can also be seen all along the mune. This is a Jumyō wakizashi or katana, shortened to a tanto size in mid-late Edo. It could be one of those 'boy swords', especially looking at the way it's been mounted. |
