katana

Looking for EDO Period Katana by Swordsmith Kanetsune

I own two Wakizashi by Swordsmith Kendo Kanetsune and am seeking to purchase a Katana made & signed by the same smith. If anyone can help, please send a reply.

I AM FROM ARGENTINA , I have a katana of master smith Kanesada

It has performed a test of carbon-14 , and we found that it is more than 400 years old. I send a picture of a rice paper with a old kanji, could you tell me what does it say? This paper was taked out of the katana's handle. I will try to send you all the pictures that you need. Thanks for your time, Alejandro Ludvik from Argentina.

Help for Hisakuni short sword identification

Dear Sirs
I have already contacted you last year after finding a short sword signed Hisakuni in south of France.
When I found it, the sword was in a very bad state. There were some deep marks of blows. The polisher has made what he could but some of them always appear. Now the blade is restored and mounted in a beautiful shirasaya.
This short sword had the particularities of Kamakura’s forging, tender steel, thin shape, curved, light hamon, Fine Hada... but now, we are are not experts.

Katana information

Hey everyone, I got this sword that came from my grandpa and just now I start wandering where it came from and if is even real.

If anyone could help me find out anything about this sword I would appreciate very much

My best regards

Ps: Don't know where my grandpa got it, not even when. But if I were guess, this sword is more old than 40y (if help anything), and from what I know, no one has cleaned it.

Identification help needed - Japanese Katana

I found this in my father-in-law's attic after his death this summer. He did not serve in the military and his brother that was in WW2 was only in Europe. His father did operate a gun repair shop in the 50s & 60s.

This had been the family home since 1960 and this was buried at the very back under the eaves, so I suspect it has been there approximately 50 years.

The sheath is plain wood, lightly stained.

I've attached multiple photos of the blade, hopefully that will provide enough detail for identification.

I appreciate any help that can be provided.

thanks,

Mark

MUNETSUGU Katana. Kanji:備前介宗次 bizen no suke munetsugu 1845 AD 68,2 cm
Description:

Chiisai katana that was popular during the Bakumatsu period and was in vogue due to the tremendous amount of fighting occurring during this time. Koyama Munetsugu (jojosaku) was one of the most famous makers in this bloody period, and his blades were well known for their sharpness (many have body testcuts on tangs by Yamada Asaemon). This type of sword is very good for in house fighting as it is made very stoutly, and can hold its own against an attack from a longer sword or spear.

The well done hamon of gunome choji midare with ashi and kinsuji shows very well through the excellent polish. The well knit jigane is a very fine ko-itame with very fine even jinie showing the skill of Munetsugu. This wide sword looks very good due to its proportions and is a very nice piece!

Yoshimori Tachi?

Hi I have recently bought three katana's from a Japanese sword seller. A Munetsugu that is a straight sword signed Bizen No Suke Munetsugu. A Nio Mitsukiyo dated 1550 with NBTHK Hozon papers. And a Yoshimori katana? The seller gave me some info about the sword. I have my doubts about the date, early edo period 1640.And about the name. Can someone tell me what the signature says about this?

Thanks in advance!

Greetings, Ed

help needed to identify katana

Thank you Stan for your advice. Here's the challenge. In another thread on this site is the same signature "Yamamoto Kameichi" or similar name, but the quality of both pieces ( the other one andthis one)seem quite different. have a look and have your say. don't hold back, this Katana is not for sale and was bought for the equivalent of about US$90 from and American with a large collection of Japanese artifacts he had inherited, then bought by a local dude here in New Zealand. There were three swords in all, and I got this one.
