Feature Requests & Improvements

Do you have ideas how to improve NihontoClub.com? Please share it.

Search my previous posts

I am trying to find my previous posts about mei translation on other swords I own, but can't find them. Is there a way to find the posts I have created?

Private Messages are back

Ability to send private message (PMs) to other members is available again. Your mailbox is available in the menu on the left hand side (Messages). If you would like to contact somebody else, you may either use Write new message option and pick a recipient, or use the link Send this user a message on the member's account page.
If you don't want to receive email notifications when somebody sends you a PM, disable the flag Receive email notification for incoming private messages in your account.

Nihonto Club software upgraded

Dear Members and Visitors,

As promised, NC software has been upgraded over weekend. This is an essential step towards further development of the NC platform. The following features are available immediately:

  • New spam prevention tools to stop occasional outbursts of unsolicited content and make it less painful for authentic visitors (e.g. when using contact form and password recovery)
  • Faster and easier to use rich-text editor for posts and comments
  • Numerous minor improvements across the board

Visualisation of Keizu: smith genealogy and school lineage

I would like to share some news with you. It’s about something which was promised long time ago: a solution for drawing smith & school lineages. Every time I attempt writing comments on a particular school or smith, I keep coming back to the same issue (on top of incompetence, of course :-) ) of being unable to show relationships between numerous smiths of the same school or lineage in a clear way. Moreover, currently smith records hold all the information needed to do it, but it’s just a matter of choosing a right solution and putting it on the site.

Almost every serious Nihonto website has an article or two which contain smith lineages, most likely in a form of custom-made images. It’s a good old-fashioned way which works, but prohibits any cooperation, hard to change and also sometimes a subject to copyright. There are also two major Nihonto sites which offer genealogical trees on a wider scale: Sho-Shin and JSSUS’s NKB.

PROPOSAL: Subscriptions

As promised, I'll be posting few ideas which I plan to implement on NihontoClub.com. I'd like to know you feedback whether a particular feature is worth implementing or if it's clunky/cumbersome/useless or needs to be somehow modified/improved/re-evaluated.

Subscriptions

This doesn't need any development as it's already available as a plug-in module. Once enabled, almost every page on the site will have a 'Subscribe' option (for registered users only). It will also be available in the submission form of any content type (collections, profiles, smith & school records, stories, articles, forum threads).
